Buying from The Peterson Collection

Our policies are designed to make the buying process clear, fair, and documented.

Condition / As-Seen Policy

All vintage, antique, pre-owned, restored, reproduction, and designer-inspired furniture is offered in its current condition. Items may include age-related wear, surface marks, finish variation, repairs, replaced hardware, patina, fading, fabric wear, prior-use signs, odor, structural variation, or other imperfections consistent with age, handling, storage, restoration, or prior ownership.

We make reasonable efforts to photograph and describe visible condition issues, known flaws, dimensions, materials, and relevant item details. Buyers are responsible for reviewing all listing photos, measurements, condition notes, pickup requirements, and policies before placing a deposit or completing purchase.

Deposit / Reservation Policy

A deposit reserves the selected piece for the hold period shown in the reservation confirmation or invoice and is credited toward the final purchase price.

The item remains the property of the seller until the purchase price is paid in full and the item is released to the buyer or buyer's representative. Final payment is due before pickup, delivery, or release.

Deposit invoices expire 48 hours after issue unless otherwise agreed in writing. If multiple buyers request the same piece, the first paid deposit secures the reservation.

If the buyer cancels, misses the pickup deadline, or does not complete payment by the agreed deadline, The Peterson Collection may cancel the reservation and relist the piece after written notice. Any deposit retention, refund, or partial refund will be handled according to the written reservation terms and applicable law.

If the seller cancels the sale or the item is materially different from the listing at the time of pickup inspection, the sale will be paused and reviewed.

Final deposit retention terms are subject to Massachusetts counsel review.

Final Payment Policy

Final payment must be completed before the item is released. Payment may be completed online, by invoice or payment link, or in person using an accepted payment method.

No item will be loaded, delivered, removed, or released until the balance is paid in full.

Final Sale Policy

All sales are final once the buyer or buyer's representative has had the opportunity to inspect the item, the balance has been paid in full, and the item has been released from seller possession, except where otherwise required by law.

Returns, refunds, or credits are not available for buyer's remorse, measurement errors, color variation, transport damage after release, or condition details disclosed in the listing or visible at pickup.

Refund Policy

If a refund is approved, it will generally be issued to the original payment method. Approved refunds are typically initiated within 5 business days of the refund decision. Processing time may vary by payment provider or financial institution.

Pickup / Loading / Transport Policy

Local pickup is available by appointment. Buyer is responsible for bringing an appropriate vehicle, moving help, blankets or padding, straps or tie-downs, and any tools needed to safely load and transport the piece.

Buyer is responsible for measuring doorways, hallways, stairways, elevators, vehicle cargo space, and the final placement area before pickup.

No item will be released until the balance is paid in full.

Delivery is available by quote on select pieces and is not guaranteed.

Attribution Disclaimer

Maker, designer, period, age, origin, and style descriptions are provided in good faith based on available information, visible marks, construction, materials, provenance, or stylistic comparison. Unless expressly stated and documented, these descriptions should not be understood as a guarantee of authenticity, authorship, age, origin, or market value.

Safety / Tip-Over Notice

Vintage, antique, restored, pre-owned, and reproduction furniture may not meet current safety standards. Buyer is responsible for safe placement, anchoring, installation, childproofing, use, and ongoing maintenance after pickup or delivery. Tall or heavy furniture should be secured appropriately to reduce tip-over risk.

Federal STURDY manufacturing standards apply to covered clothing storage units manufactured after September 1, 2023. Most vintage and antique pieces were manufactured before that date, so those manufacturing standards generally do not apply retroactively to the original manufacture of older pieces. However, tip-over risk, safe placement, anchoring, and buyer safety disclosures remain important regardless of age.

Photo / Color / Dimensions Disclaimer

We make reasonable efforts to photograph items accurately, but colors, tones, finish, patina, and texture may appear differently depending on lighting, screen settings, and viewing conditions. Styled vignette photography is provided to illustrate scale and context; styling props are not included in the sale.

Dimensions are approximate and provided for buyer planning. Buyer is responsible for confirming that the item will fit through doorways, stairways, elevators, vehicles, and intended placement areas. Buyers should review all photos and inspect the item before release.

Privacy / Data Collection Notice

The Peterson Collection collects buyer contact information and reservation details to fulfill orders. Trade members provide additional business information for trade verification. We use Fillout to collect reservation requests and Square to process payments; Fillout and Square privacy terms may also apply. We retain reservation, payment, listing, condition, inspection, release, refund, and communication records for a minimum of four years from the release date.

In the event of unauthorized access to personal information, we will follow Massachusetts data breach notification requirements (MGL c. 93H) and notify affected individuals and required regulators within the timeframes required by law. Final privacy policy language is subject to Massachusetts counsel review.

Trade Program Terms

The Peterson Collection's trade program is offered to verified interior designers, stagers, decorators, and home professionals. Trade benefits include a standing discount on retail pieces, 24–48 hour early access to new arrivals, and downloadable tear sheets for client proposals.

Trade membership requires application, verification of business activity, and (for tax-exempt purchases) submission of a current MA Form ST-4 resale certificate. Trade benefits apply only to approved members and may be modified, paused, or terminated at the seller's discretion.

Trade discount is applied to the item price at invoicing and is credited against the final purchase total. Trade purchases follow the same reservation, inspection, payment, and release policies as consumer purchases.
